Meet Barbara

Barbara Donno's insight, experience and understanding of the serious issues facing Long Island families are not the result of a career spent in politics, but a lifetime commitment to education and community. As a taxpayer, teacher, parent, and member and president of the Manhasset school board, Barbara understands the complexities and challenges of educating our children and she knows the struggles parents, teachers and students face each and every day.

As the Mayor of the Village of Plandome Manor, Barbara has cut government costs, worked hard to protect taxpayers and enhanced the quality-of-life for village residents.

Barbara has been an active volunteer for a number of local service organizations including, the Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation, the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island, Great Neck/Manhasset Child Care Partnership, Manhasset Youth Council, Junior League 0f Long Island and RESOLVE of Long Island, a national association that provides support groups, educational programs and opportunities to meet and connect with others experiencing the life crisis of infertility.

"I love kids, I love learning and I love sharing that passion for learning with others. Besides marrying my husband Robbie and having our family, devoting my professional life to educating children was the best, most rewarding decision I made. Today, too many of our schools are in crisis and taxpayers are simply overburdened. We need fundamental change and that's what I'll fight for in the State Senate."

Barbara lives in Manhasset with her husband Rob, who is the founder of a charity called "Gift of Life" --- a non-profit organization that arranges for lifesaving open heart surgery for needy children from around the world. They have two children, Jacqueline, 28, and Matthew, 24.
